Martyn Day MP – Bridging the Gap: Animals, Humans and Progress

Martyn Day MP supports Animal Free Research UK

Martyn Day MP

Martyn Day MP, passionate advocate for both animals and human progress, joins me in the latest episode of the Animal Free Labcast.

We discuss Martyn’s lifelong love for animals and his role as an MP advocating for animal welfare. Martyn’s dedication to both animal rights and medical research is evident, and he highlights the urgent need to transition from animal testing to more effective, human-specific research methods.

MP for Linlithgow and East Falkirk in Scotland, Martyn is the SNP’s Health spokesperson, and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Human Relevant Science. His insights into the political landscape and optimism about cross-party support provide hope for a future where science and ethics align – hopefully leading towards a world where medical research benefits all!

MPs are hugely busy – they deal with every issue under the sun, and don’t have the luxury of being able to hone in on just one area  – like I’m fortunate to do. So I’m always so grateful when a politician like Martyn Day chooses to dedicate their time to championing animal free research.

As Martyn says, current legislation is out of date and not fit for purpose – so we need every shred of positive help we can get to raise this issue up the political agenda. It really is a win-win-win: whether you’re advocating for the life sciences sector, for patients, or for animals – using human-specific technologies to develop medicines for people is a no-brainer.

And whilst the political process is painfully glacial – now really is the time to be take action and write to your MP about this issue. We’ve got the technologies, we’ve got the evidence, and in the run up to the next General Election, politicians are paying attention. So let’s get it done!

What you can do

Major public health issues devastate lives, place immense pressure on the NHS and hold back economic growth. It’s time to move away from outdated animal research and look to the future, where new cutting-edge technologies can transform patients’ lives, relieve the pressure on the NHS and boost the economy.

You can help by writing to your MP and urging them to act so we can make this vision a reality. So here are 3 quick things you can do right now to make a difference:

  1. Ask your MP to add their voice to our call for the Government to urgently embrace the uptake of human-specific technologies. We’ve done the hard work for you – just click here to fill in your details and send.
  2. Get informed by listening to the Animal Free Labcast with my guest Martyn Day MP – available on our website, SpotifyApple and wherever you get your podcasts.
  3. Make a donation, if you can, to support the transition to animal-free research
