Lee Pitcher MP Calls for Greater Urgency to Phase Out Animal Testing

On Monday 13th July, Lee Pitcher MP called on the Government to move much faster in phasing out animal testing and highlighted the urgent need for a clear long-term plan, such as Herbie’s Law.

During Home Office Questions, Lee Pitcher MP drew attention to newly published figures showing that 2.45 million scientific procedures involving animals were carried out in Great Britain in 2025, including increases in experiments involving dogs and monkeys.

Lee Pitcher MP: “Does the Minister agree that greater urgency is needed to accelerate the phase-out of animal testing, and will she consider the merits of a clear, long-term plan, as set out in Herbie’s law?”

Responding on behalf of the Government, Sarah Jones MP, Minister for Policing and Crime: “I agree that greater urgency is needed to accelerate the phase-out of animal testing, and I welcome the strategy that the Government published, which was backed by £75 million. The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has committed to publishing clear timelines for specific actions, and I look forward to seeing them.”

By raising Herbie’s Law during Home Office Questions, Lee Pitcher MP helped reinforce calls for a clear plan to phase out animal testing. We thank him for highlighting this important issue.
