Inaugural Meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Phasing Out Animal Experiments in Medical Research
On Wednesday 11th December, in Parliament, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Phasing Out Animal Experiments in Medical Research met for the very first time. Irene Campbell MP was elected as Chair of the group with Lord Courtown elected as Vice-Chair and Neil Duncan-Jordan MP and Ben Obese-Jecty MP both elected as Officers of the APPG.
Centered around the Government’s manifesto commitment on animal testing and Animal Free Research UK’s campaign for a phase-out of animal experiments in medical research, the newly formed APPG will help build cross-party support for replacing animal experiments in medical research with human-specific methods, working closely with the scientific community to identify opportunities, barriers and put forward constructive recommendations to Government.

A huge thank you to Irene Campbell MP, Dr Danny Chambers MP, Michael Wheeler MP, Ben Obese-Jecty MP, Neil Duncan-Jordan MP, Brian Mathew MP, Alex Mayer MP and Kenneth Stevenson MP, for taking the time on a busy Wednesday afternoon to attend the inaugural meeting of the APPG.
The group decided on an exciting program of activities for next year, which such as visits to Animal Free Research UK’s animal-free laboratories, workshops with pioneering human-specific scientists, meetings with Ministers and roundtables with leading figures from countries who are taking the lead in phasing out animal experiments in medical research.
