Dame Joanna Lumley, Patron

Dame Joanna Lumley kicks off the new series of our podcast, the Animal Free Labcast, in style, aired from Wednesday 20 September 2023.

Dame Joanna, longstanding Patron of Animal Free Research UK, is interviewed candidly about her life and involvement in animal protection by podcast host and CEO of Animal Free Research UK, Carla Owen.

During the 40-minute interview, listeners will hear about Joanna’s childhood spent surrounded by nature and the great impact this had on her, as well as heartfelt insights into the huge role animals play in her day-to-day life in London.

“They are the best, most charming, courteous, gentle little creatures” says Joanna Lumley speaking about her love of urban foxes.

The conversation highlights her lifelong commitment to campaigning for animals, her philosophy behind this and why she is urging the Government to support the transition away from the use of animals in medical research and embrace human-specific technologies.

“My feeling which is so strong” Dame Joanna tells host Carla “is that all living creatures have a right, just as much as I do, to life, and a life without pain and a life of freedom.”
