Accelerating the Growth of Human Relevant Life Sciences in the UK

Published on March 10, 2020

The Alliance for Human Relevant Science, of which Animal Free Research UK is a founding member, has today called for a fresh approach to biomedical research and drug discovery.

New approach methodologies that are animal free and human relevant have the potential to improve the efficiency of drug research and development. We believe they can deliver safer, cheaper and more effective medicines to patients.

A new White paper ‘Accelerating the Growth of Human Relevant Life Sciences in the United Kingdom’, was launched in Parliament today. It calls for support from the Government to assist businesses in the transition to these new methodologies by providing supportive infrastructure, strategic funding, education, collaboration between industries and regulatory engagement.

Carla Owen, Chief Executive of Animal Free Research UK, said: “There is a real opportunity for the UK to be a world leader in developing new approach methodologies which are animal free. Investing in human relevant methods is good for animals, for business, and for public health.”
